We're Going to Guyana!

Well, we've been praying for quite some time about going to Guyana, South America. Joshua went on a trip with a man from our assembly the year before we were married. Since then Doc and his wife (who started making trip to give the gospel and minister to the people of Guyana) have had health problems and family issues and thus have not been able to go in over a year. We have felt led to go down and encourage the young believers down there, share the gospel and for Joshua to do some teaching on the Church according to scripture. We have just been waiting for God's timing.

We decided to go ahead and get our passports renewed (Joshua because his had expired and mine because my name had changed) and apply for one for Gideon. So we applied for ours the beginning of the month and they came on Saturday! Yay, only three weeks and we didn't even have to expedite them. Gideon however had to wait till we could get his birth certificate and then till we could get an appointment for him at the passport office. We applied for his about two weeks ago and now we are just praying for it to come in time or we will have to expedite it.

We bought tickets last night and we will be going May 20th-June 2nd! It was a little harder getting a ticket for an infant than we thought but we got it taken care of. He will be riding on my lap since really it won't be very practical to have a car seat in Guyana since we will be pretty much doing a lot of walking there.

Now we just have a bunch of things to do to get ready for our trip, its less than a month already! Guyana is a third world country so we have to get some medicine to take while there. We can't drink the water, only bottled water. I have to figure out all the details about taking a baby--thankfully he has cloth diapers as there isn't really a good place to dispose of diapers...and taking food I have to figure out. Guyana is the only English speaking South American country but they have hard dialects so sometimes it sounds like a different language. And where we are going is near the jungle so that should be adventurous. We would appreciate all your prayers for our trip as we prepare. Also please be praying for the people of Guyana for those who need salvation and for those that need discipleship and teaching.

My Six Month Old

Spring at Happy Hollow

We live on a absolutely lovely mountain that has wonderful views and spring is just beautiful. The family that originally built our house and owned the park behind us loved azalea bushes and cultivated all sorts of original colors and types. So all over their are bursts of colors from the bushes that are at their peak right now. We have whites, pink, red, purple, and oranges.

We also found asparagus growing on our property wild which is exciting since we love asparagus! We have planted tomato plants and pepper plants and have potatoes to plant this week! Looking forward to fresh salsa this fall!

Making Things Ourselves

I feel like the past couple weeks Joshua and I have been venturing out and learning to make things ourselves. It's been pretty exciting!

First I have to brag about my amazing husband who put in our very own diaper sprayer (which is a kitchen sprayer attached to the toilet that allows you to spray off dirty diapers). Since Gideon just started solids it has become a much needed tool and Joshua decided he could do it himself instead of buying one. So we went to the hardware store and Joshua explained to someone that he wanted to attach a kitchen sink sprayer to the toilet and the guy got him all set up with the stuff he needed. So last night we finally had a little bit of time and Joshua put it all together and it worked great! But the sink sprayer end had a crack so this morning he returned that for a new one and now we have a perfectly good working diaper sprayer!!!! I am so grateful that he put one in...

Yesterday I also got to learn how to use our new tortilla maker and I made my very own flour tortillas and corn tortillas! Then I made my own chips from the corn tortillas...I've enjoyed having more time to cook and experiment in the kitchen!

Today I'm making a bumper for Gideon's crib...because we are teaching him to sleep through the night in his own room and he's still working on it but at night if he wakes up and starts crying the madder he gets the more he arches his back and scoots up to the top and bumps his head. So now he has a couple little red bumps...so thus I'm making padding for him!

We had a busy weekend with going to R. for a youth conference and being able to see my family, which was nice. They were so eager to see Gideon! So I've included a couple pictures from that.

Our play Pride and Prejudice is coming...the performance is next Friday and I think everyone will be so glad to finally be done with it...but right now everyone is finishing their lines and costumes and working on their songs...if you'd like to come let me know...

Making Baby Food

Well since Monday and discovering that Gideon was definitely ready for some baby food he has been eating away!!! I had two jars of baby food that I had gotten free that are big size and he is working his way thru those...but today I figured that the sweet potatoes would only last so long and I should make my own baby food for when he runs out. So today I made some green bean baby food and have it in the freezer till I need it. I already made a ton of applesauce last year to be ready for when he would be eating...we also put up his booster seat...he is sooo cute!

Starting to Eat Solids

Gideon decided today that milk was not enough to fill his tummy and asked to be fed some mashed potatoes...thus we enter into the world of solid foods!
