Valentine's Day Celebration

I grew up with Valentine's Day being a celebration of love for the whole family! It made it way more fun when we had a beautiful heart breakfast and everyone gave each other valentines. So I've decided to carry on that tradition somewhat with my family. Joshua and I don't really celebrate on the tradition valentine's day, we just pick random days to surprise each other...so the kids and I made Valentines for extended family members which was so cute hearing them say--"love you Pops, love you pawpa" while we were making them for people. Then I put together a little valentines scavenger hunt I found off a blog I follow and Gideon and Tirzah loved it...it led them to cake and prizes!!!

Yay for heart shaped cake pans!
All the art supplies for the Valentines
Candy and special cups!

Creation Museum Trip

Our family has been planning a trip to the Creation Museum for some time and this past weekend we were finally able to go!If you have never been to the Creation Museum let me urge you to plan a trip there, it is a powerful testimony to God's Word and the truth of it and is very impressive with all their displays, dinosaurs, movies, planetarium, walk through of the creation and fall of man and the ark section. The planetarium cost a little more but was quite impressive!  The museum emphasizes the importance of having an absolute truth as found in the Bible as the foundation on which all of our understanding of ourselves, the world, nature and science is built. The evidences that support creation found through the museum are so amazing! It is appropriate for all ages as we discovered since we weren't sure how our three little ones would do but they loved it! Even with it being cold and not being able to enjoy a lot of the outside things (they have a petting zoo, gardens, camel rides) although Gideon did go with Joshua for a quick peek at the animals the children enjoyed all the displays and seemed to learn a lot! You never know how much they are taking in at this early age so we want them to start their education with a firm Biblical foundation. Also on a side note they are building a life size ark that will be nearby and will be a testimony and way to teach the world God's salvation--we are super excited about that project and look forward to many trips to see that as they build it, more information can be found here. Our trip was quite a long one as this is located in Kentucky--overall everyone did pretty well in the van for over 6 hours there and 6 hours back...
Chloe and I were the only ones brave enough to hold this snake as we walked into the museum--so cool! They were having a workshop on them later that we didn't go to.
Tirzah looking at the "dews" as she fondly calls deers, notice the antlers how it shows when God first created animals he created them as distinct kinds with the capacity to have great variety down the line.
Aunt Lydia was able to go with us which proved to be a great help as the the children love her very much and I think she enjoyed the experience as well!
I loved how they had displays that you could touch and that for children it wasn't all--no touch!
I felt drawn to this display of the Eve with child...I just feel like I look like that a lot lately...this is where it all started!
Chloe and I at the ark display--it is so fascinating, it is my favorite section of the museum!
Model that Gideon was looking at and commenting on the different animals!
Imagine our surprise and joy at finding out that Buddy Davis was at the museum to do a concert the day we were there! We have several of his dvds and Gideon recognized him immediately when he showed up saying "there's Buddy Davis". We had the opportunity to talk to him and of course get a picture. He is the man who sculpted all the dinosaurs in the museum and does dinosaur digs as well as writes great children's songs. Our favorites are "Billions of dead things" and "Behemoth".
Being able to "ride" a dinosaur was definitely a plus.
Chloe and a dinosaur as we waited for the rest of the family going through the displays...

Update on Book Reading for 2013

So far Joshua and I have accomplished quite a few books for this year, it surprises even me. Joshua and I both have our own list of books we are trying to accomplish and then we are trying to read aloud as a family and as a couple. So here is what we have accomplished so far this year...
Bold as a Lamb is a biography on the man Pastor Lam over in China and his ministry in the underground Churches as well as his long time spent in prison. It was incredible to hear his testimony of being in a prison/work camp for 20+ years where he was constantly subjected to brain washing but where he still had a shining testimony and witnessed when God gave him the opportunity. It was interesting to see that China didn't say you can't believe in God and you can't be a christian as much as they ridiculed that you could believe in Christ and God and just didn't want you to share your faith. Our schools in America are like that today...this was a book we read as a couple.
Middlemarch is a book I started last year and couldn't get through it and this year decided I would try again...I persevered until I have at last finished the book. It was quite long but I'm glad I finished it, some people wound up happy, some wound up living very real lives with trials and trouble. It was interesting to me with the history on doctors and hospitals.
Jane Eyre we listened to read aloud while we drove around last month. Joshua had never read it and I hadn't read it since high school. I will say I enjoyed it much more this time around and seemed to be able to better appreciate it since I have lived life a little more and can understand moral dilemmas better.
The Power of a Praying Wife was really good to deepen my prayers not only for my husband but for others. It reminded me of all the different areas we struggle with and how important it is to pray for things besides just health and safety.
We just finished the Railway Children this weekend. We read this aloud as a family and quite enjoyed the story and writing style. It was so sweet, funny and had lots of trains in there so of course when Gideon and Tirzah were really listening they enjoyed it. Even when they were not Joshua and I enjoyed the book!

So my reading list so far:
  1. Power of a Praying Wife
  2. Desperate by Sally Clarkson and Sarah Mae
  3. My Life, My heart, My all MacDonald
  4. Middlemarch by Eliot
  5. Dombey and Son by Dickens
  6. Shirley by Bronte
  7. Buggies and Blizzards
  8. Ultimate Proof by Jason Lisle
  9. Not a Fan
  10. Out of the Salt Shaker
  11. Tortured for Christ
  12. You can Teach your Child Successfully

Tirzah's 2nd Cow Birthday Party

My sweet little Tirzah is a big two years old now! Hard to believe!! We decided to celebrate in a theme of cows which was a lot of fun. Joshua made an amazing pin the tail on the cow which I am glad he did because my version would have been a stick cow...I made the cake and a few decorations!!!

Joshua totally drew this amazing cow for pin the tail on the cow! Isn't he amazing?
Gideon's progression of playing pin the tail is quite funny...he starts out blindfolded
But has to check...notice Uncle Brandon saying, you can't do that Gideon...
See, this is where it goes...

My cow cake!

Chloe with her cake and ice cream

So guess what candle I couldn't find? The number she was turning...so Gideon and Tirzah wanted as many as possible...

Sweet Cousins
My cow cups and tablecloth...they don't make those, but they are easy to make yourself...

Best Snow Bear Ever...Who Needs Snowmen?

So my wonderful husband and son went out in the snow we got last week and built a snow bear, who needs snowmen? Aren't snow bears so much cuter? Maybe it will scare off whatever gets into our trash which may very well be a black bear...

When the snow came out later in the day the bear took a little nap...

Monkey See Monkey Do

Upon going through some pictures today and taking a couple I thought I would add some to Tirzah's copying her Mommy...
Tirzah is very, very loving and loves to give hugs to her sister and her cousins...quite the mothering instinct...
So it would seem I must multi-task while feeding Chloe...um, yes sometimes I do have to nurse and walk across the room, not sure about reading, walking and feeding...
Tirzah saw me reading and eating during lunch and when I hopped up she took my spot and did exactly what I was doing.

This is my little phone girl, she LOVES to talk on the phone and her grandparents got her a wonderful phone for her birthday so she dressed herself up and talked on the phone--she has way more style than me.

A very Chloe Post

This little girl is full of smiles and she is rolling all over the place now...and scooting. I can't believe how fast she is growing!!! She is our little Chloe bear and we love her bunches!

Little Mommy

My little Tirzah is following in her Mommy's footsteps. I found her the other day trying to put a cloth diaper on here baby. She also tried to nurse her baby by placing her baby under her shirt. I love that she has these mothering instincts so early. She does try to mother Chloe all the time and I often have to rescue her.
